Ivory:  Organic Gem from the Age of King Tusk

Synopsis:  This lecture covers the different kinds of ivory and it's use as ornament throughout the ages, as well as David's contemporary work in fossil ivory.  While there is mention of the issue of elephant ivory poaching and current legal issues, this talks focus is NOT on elephant ivory or the conservation crisis.   Ivory is an organic gemstone that has been used by humans since the dawn of time.  The teeth of all mammals can technically be considered a form of ivory.  David V. Horste of DVHdesigns will speak on different forms of ivory, it's characteristics, uses throughout the ages, the decline of ivory, contemporary challenges presented to conservation, and overview of the legality of ivory ownership and sale with special attention to the new laws in various states and countries around the world.
