DVH Rare Michigan Fordite Hex Bolt Bead Pendant Chv Frd Jp 36x30x11mm (6312)

I made this bead pendant from genuine Fordite sourced from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) contract paint facility in Michigan that paints components for multiple major auto manufacturers. Measurements in the title are in millimeters. This piece is especially rare, having formed around the head of a hex bolt on factory paint skid hardware, resulting in striking six-sided geometry and unusually angular banding patterns throughout. Hex bolt fordite formations are exceptionally uncommon and difficult to extract intact, and I am currently the only cutter I know of shaping them into finished beads. A 2.5mm drill hole will fit most chains. CHAIN NOT INCLUDED. It comes in a gift box with a Certificate of Authenticity describing the source of the material.

Fordite is accumulated overspray from the paint booths of auto factories, which I cut and polish using traditional lapidary techniques. Back then, dedicated rockhounds working in the auto industry would salvage chunks of dried, layered paint from factory spray booths—a practice dating back to the late 1960s. This overspray paint, repeatedly baked in curing ovens, developed remarkable hardness and stability. It was affectionately known by many names—Fordite, Chryslerite, Buickite, Detroit Agate—but over time “Fordite” has become the most recognized and beloved term.
