I hand-cut and polished this one-of-a-kind focal bead from authentic Tennessee jet, inlaying it with a shimmering confetti sunstone from Tanzania on one side and a luminous mother-of-pearl disk on the other. The intense, inky blackness of the jet provides the perfect contrast to make the fiery schiller of the sunstone dazzle and the soft glow of the mother-of-pearl shine like the moon. It’s a talisman of day and night, light and shadow, warmth and reflection.

Measurements are shown in the listing title (in millimeters), and the bead features a 2.5mm side-drilled hole to accommodate most cords and chains. CHAIN NOT INCLUDED. It has a high-polished finish all around for a sleek, tactile feel.

I work in a variety of natural jet from around the world, but this particular piece comes from Tennessee, one of the few places in the U.S. where gem-grade coal is found. Jet is a fossilized organic gemstone formed over 50 million years ago from ancient trees and plant life—holding within it the memory of deep time and the energy of ancient sunlight. Once cherished as the gemstone of mourning in the Victorian era, jet has long been associated with grief relief, emotional resilience, and spiritual protection.
