Synopsis: "From opals to sunstones, and labradorite to pearls, the light that makes our world visible can play all sorts of beautiful magic tricks when it interacts with certain gemstones in phenomenal ways. In this lecture David will cover the wide variety of optical phenomena that make some gemstone jump out at us in flashy, glittery, lustrous, shimmering, and mysterious ways. If you ever wanted to know why certain gems will show a star or cats eye and why others flash with different colors, this lecture will cover it all! In addition to his fun-filled informational presentation, David will have many physical samples of gemstones that exhibit optical phenomena available for examination, as well as purchase!
