DVH Charlevoix Stone Favosite Heart Bead Pendant Michigan Fossil Coral 42x35x16mm (6212)

$ 57.99

This heart-shaped bead pendant is hand cut and polished from genuine fossil Charlevoix stone, a favositic coral collected by me in Michigan years ago. Measurements are listed in the title in millimeters. It features a 2.5mm drill hole. CHAIN NOT INCLUDED.

This piece is part of my long-running practice of carving hearts of stone—objects shaped from ancient material and meant to be held, worn, or kept close as quiet companions. Each fossilized heart carries the imprint of deep time and once-living reef systems, transformed by geology into something enduring. These hearts honor continuity, patience, and the way life leaves its mark long after it has changed form.

Charlevoix stone is a favosite fossil coral, part of the genus Favosites, sometimes called “honeycomb coral” for its tightly packed hexagonal corallites. These corals lived in warm, shallow seas during the Devonian period, roughly 350 million years ago, when Michigan sat near the equator. Compared to Petoskey stone, favosite Charlevoix stone often shows a finer, more intricate cellular pattern—subtle, architectural, and unmistakably organic.

Metaphysically, fossil corals like favosite are often associated with grounding, ancestral memory, and connection to deep time. They invite reflection on cycles of growth, transformation, and persistence—reminding us that change does not erase what came before, but preserves it in new form. Whether approached as a talisman or simply appreciated as a geological artifact, this fossilized heart carries both story and substance.
