Studio Journal

Welcome to the Studio Journal of DVHdesigns.

This is where I write about the deeper story behind the stones—especially Fordite, the layered automotive paint material often called “Detroit Agate.” After more than four decades as a full-time lapidary artist, I’ve come to see that every material carries a history, and every finished piece carries intention. You can explore my current collection of genuine Fordite pieces here.

Here you’ll find reflections on genuine Fordite and its provenance, guidance on distinguishing authentic material from modern imitations, notes from the lapidary studio, and essays exploring what I call Spiritual Geology—the intersection of stone, story, resilience, and transformation.

You’ll also occasionally find personal history, heart-shaped work, and the evolving philosophy behind DVHdesigns. This journal exists to document not just what I make, but why I make it.

More will be revealed.
