Petrified palm Wood Dog Tag (7801)

Petrified palm Wood Dog Tag (7801)

$ 22.88

A rare and desirable formation of Petrified Palm Wood. I hand cut this one of a kind, dog tag shaped bead dangle which measures 42x23x4mm with a 4mm front drill hole that could easily be worn on a chain or cable. Lovely shape, colors, and patterns. It has a satiny, matte finish all over and the natural edge of the stone has been left at the bottom of this piece. This beautiful piece of Petrified Palm Wood came from the collecting spots around the Texas-Louisiana border. Classic tan color with the brown spots of the cell structure of the palm. Beautiful contrast!

Chain not included.

In the past I've attended a Spirit Dance here in Oregon where for 5 days we did ceremony, prayers, and dance in a circle around a tree that represented "The Tree of Life." One of the things I took away from the dance was the notion that I need to keep dancing around that tree in my everyday life, and what better "The Tree of Life" to dance around than the petrified wood here in my studio! Thus begins the "The Tree of Life" series of petrified wood beads from DVHdesigns.

Regarding Petrified Palm Wood, according to June Culp Zeitner, of Lapidary Journal fame, she says in her famous book Gem and Lapidary Materials, " Agatized palm is one of the most sought after of the silicified woods. It comes in many colors, is usually highly agatized, does not have a lot of fractures, and the artistically spaced, dotted patterns make exciting cabochons and slabs. Although agatized palm wood is found in many states, the most and the best for the lapidary comes from Texas." She goes on to say, "The colors of the agatized palm are like an artist's palette. The round dots in precise patterns that identify the palms are from 1 to 3mm in diameter. Dots may be light in color on a dark groundmass, or dark on a light ground. The exterior inch of so of a complete round is usually of a contrasting color to the central part. Small pieces showing reverse coloration of the spotted patterns are used for decorator cabochons"

If you're interested in the metaphysical aspects of petrified wood, here is some info I got off the internet and from Melody's book, "Love is in the Earth"; because it is silicated, or turned to quartz, it also has the metaphysical properties of quartz and other forms of quartz such as chalcedony or agate. Petrified wood is a stone that is good for grounding and stabilizing one's emotions. It is particularly useful in calming survival-based fears. Provides support for those going through a crisis period of dis-ease, acts as a stone of transformation to help one advance in life to appropriate chosen levels. It helps one be practical. It is a stone of business success. Petrified wood is a good stone for general protection. Physically, it is beneficial physically for the bones, backaches, skin and hair. Petrified wood is also used for past life regressions because of its inherent link with the past.

My "Dog tags" are inspired by military style dog tags. They make great talismans and touchstones for anyone and everyone, regardless of your feelings about the military. We are all created from the dust of the earth and to dust we shall return. In some ways I think of these as a kind of "God Tag" with each pendant being a biopsy of the body of the Earth from which all of us have sprung as a result of the miracle of creation, regardless of our opinion on the power or path behind that creation. A "God Tag" can show that you are a warrior for the Earth and not any particular nation. It can represent anything you want, from being a touchstone for someone who wants to contemplate the metaphysical or spiritual aspects of stones, to a rockhound who loves having a fashionable and American made sample of the beauty of the Earth to wear around their neck! Check out my other listings on eBay and Etsy to see all my different dog tags, custom cut focal beads, and unique cabochons. Everything is cut in my studio in Portland, Oregon. The bead is NOT engraveab
