DVH Afghanistan Memorial Dog Tags Trio - Lapis Lazuli, Jet, Stainless Steel, on Bead Ball Chain 49x27x5mm (1151)
I made the two stone dog tags out of Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan and genuine jet from Russia. Lapis Lazuli has been mined in Afghanistan for 6,000 years. Jet is traditionally used as mourning jewelry, to signify death and loss, and to help people with their grieving. The steel dog tag is intentionally blank and represents ALL the deaths, military and civilian, in the last 40 years of conflict in that nation. The Afghani people have experienced 10 years of Soviet Occupation, 13 years of non-foregin occupation civil war, and 17 years oc conflict with the United States and NATO leading the fighting. According to the NYT, "On average, the conflict has taken the lives of 30 to 40 Afghan forces and at least 10 civilians a day. There are no tangible signs of momentum for peace talks with the Taliban." I made this necklace for those who remember, for those who mourn, and those who pray for peace. 24" bead ball chain is stainless steel.
