DVH Fordite From Powder Coating Cabochon 30x20x7mm (1009) - DVHdesigns

DVH Fordite From Powder Coating Cabochon 30x20x7mm (1009)

$ 21.98

I hand cut this one of a kind, freeform shaped cabochon out of contemporary Fordite of a powder coating variety.  It's not from paint overspray like most other Fordites.  Measurements are shown in the listing title.

  Here is an encyclopedia definition of how powder coating differs from painting, "Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin". The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as household appliances, aluminum extrusions, drum hardware and automobile and bicycle parts."  Because I've been cutting varieties of this for over 40 years I can generally tell whether or not the material is genuine automotive Fordite. Contrary to what had been believed for many years about the unavailability of new rough due to manufacturing changes, there is SOME contemporary Fordite rough that is collected and made available to cutters. It sells for quite a bit per pound for rough and only from a few regular dealers! I have a good stock of rough to work with. No one is making focal beads like mine or big round cabs! Compare with other Fordite for sale on the internet! Much of it is fake and either "handmade" by just pouring pretty colors of paint together that are clearly not automotive paint colors of ANY era, or they're just stripey resin beads made in China! Not real Fordite.  I grew up in a rock club in SE Michigan and have been cutting varieties of Fordite since 1976!
