DVH Jet Mourning Heart Bead Ethiopian Opal Inlay Jewelry 33x22x11 (2637)

NOTE: On this one there is a little pit in the seam between the opal inlay and the jet. This is only visible on close inspection and represents that tiny little hole in your heart that doesn't heal. I hand cut this polished jet focal bead using rough material from Russia and I inlaid flashing, natural, Ethiopian opal into one face. The deep black jet makes the colors in the opal pop! The measurements are shown in the listing title and the bead has a 2.5mm side drill hole. It has a high polished finish all around.

I work in a variety of natural jet from around the world but most of it is from Russia or Tennessee. Jet is a kind of gem grade lignite coal that has been used in beads, jewelry, carvings and ornament for over 15,000 years. It's a true fossil fuel jewel. Jet reached its greatest popularity during Victorian times as traditional mourning jewelry. For this reason it is still associated metaphysically with alleviating grief and depression. It is also said to help with financial stability. While the "energy" of other crystals and stones can't really be measured, the energy of jet can be measured in BTU's and joules of actual energy because it's a fossil fuel jewel!
